A rumor of a shooting occurring in Seaside Heights is not true, Mayor Anthony Vaz confirmed.

The rumor began to circulate on various social media platforms in the evening hours. There was a loud noise which caused a disturbance at some point, however it was confirmed that no shooting took place. Police are continuing to investigate.

Borough officials have said, however, that large groups of youths have been involved in a number of incidents, leading police to impose a curfew of 10 p.m. for all people under the age of 18. Police activity has been high, officials said, and there have been numerous reports of altercations between groups. Various police departments from neighboring towns, including SWAT and special operations teams, have been called to quell the situation.
