Large Waves, Beach Erosion Forecast Thursday Despite Sunshine

The National Weather Service alerted Shore residents to potential beach erosion and heavy surf on Thursday despite it being an otherwise clear weather day.

The NWS said in a hazardous weather statement that “Large breaking waves are expected … in the surf zone Thursday. Localized beach erosion is possible.”



The forecast for Thursday calls for mostly sunny skies, with a high near 42. Northeast winds will move 5 to 10 m.p.h., becoming south in the afternoon. A minor rain storm will move in Thursday night into Friday, leading to mostly cloudy skies on Friday.

The NWS marine forecast noted a Small Craft Advisory in effect from Wednesday through Friday night. Offshore, northwest winds 15 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots and seas 4 to 7 feet are expected during that time period. Seas will remain around 5-feet Saturday, slowly beinr reduced to 3-feet by Saturday night into Sunday morning.
