Snow Will Change to Rain Tues, But Second Round Could be On The Way Later This Week

The Jersey Shore region received its first truly measurable snowfall overnight in more than two years, with 2-4 inches having fallen across most of Ocean County, depending on one’s exact location. Now, forecasters are tracking a second round that could roll through later in the week after frigid temperatures move in over the course of the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow that fell overnight will turn to a mix of rain and snow likely before 8 a.m. Tuesday, then rain between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., followed by a slight chance of some additional mixed rain and snow after 4 p.m. It will otherwise be cloudy, with a high near 39. New snow accumulation of only less than a half-inch are possible given the mixture.

Tuesday delays and cancellations so far include:

Brick Township Schools: 2 hour delay; no Before School Care (BEST).
Toms River Schools: 90 minute delay, as per delay schedule calendar.
Seaside Heights: No municipal court.
Lavallette Schools: 90-minute delay. Seaside Park bus students will be picked up from their bus stops 90 minutes later than their regularly scheduled times (the district asks families to disregard an earlier message that said 2 hours later).

Tuesday night, the low will dip to a bone-chilling 14-degrees, followed by a sunny Wednesday with a high reaching just 27. Clouds will move in Thursday, with temperatures barely breaking the freezing mark – potentially rising to just 33 degrees.

The next chance of snow, the NWS forecast, could begin lightly overnight between Thursday and Friday, after 1 a.m., with a low of 24 degrees. On Friday during the day, it will be cloudy with another chance of snow with a high of 34 degrees, with the possibility of snow continuing through 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The NWS statement did not offer a forecast of how much – or little – snow would be in the cards.

Saturday, however, will see the return of sunny skies, though the high temperature will remain cold at 27 degrees.
