Seaside Park Police Blotter: Water Rescue, Scooter Didn’t Stop, Asleep at the Wheel

Seaside Park police have released their weekly blotter, which lists a sampling of calls to which the department responded over the past week. So far this week, the department has responded to 294 calls for service.

Alarm – Police were dispatched to the area of C St. and Central for a report of a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter and did not locate any signs of forced entry. A subject was found to be inside and after further investigation they were authorized to be there, and the alarm was set off in error.

Erratic Driving – While on patrol in the area of L St. and Central Police observed two vehicles racing one another down central avenue. Officers were able to initiate a motor vehicle stop and apprehend one of the offenders. The driver was advised of the infraction and ticketed with reckless driving.

Disturbance – Police responded to the area of Stockton and Ocean for a disturbance between a male and two females. The male subject was intoxicated and was trying to get either one of the females to drive him home. The females did not know the male and wanted to leave peacefully. Officers arrived and mediated the situation and separated the subjects. Police stood by while the females left without incident. The male was able to get a safe ride home on his own.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of Lafayette and Ocean Ave., officers observed a male sleeping in his motor vehicle. Police made contact with the subject and advised him of the infraction. He was issued a borough summons for the violation.

Swimmer in Distress – Police and the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire Company Water Rescue team were dispatched to the area of 2nd Avenue Beach for a female swimmer in distress. Police arrived and the swimmer was still in the water. The water rescue team was able to safely bring the swimmer to the beach where she was assessed by Tri-Boro First Aid Squad.

Borough Ordinance Violation – While on patrol in the area of the J St. Beach Officers observed a male and female who were engaged in consensual sexual relations. The subjects were advised to get dressed and were advised of the violation. Both subjects were issued a summons for the infraction.

First Aid – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad responded to assist a victim who was experiencing a severe migraine. Officers and EMS arrived and began to assess the subject at the scene. They were later transported to Community Medical Center for further treatment.

Accident – Police and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad responded to H St. and Central for a report of an accident between a motor vehicle and an electric scooter. Police and EMS arrived and began to assess the victims and investigate the situation. The two female victims were riding on the same scooter together and only suffered minor injuries as the driver was able to slow down and swerve to lessen the impact. The scooter operators did not stop at the stop sign and entered Central Ave. with oncoming traffic having the right of way.

Arrest – Police were dispatched to the area of Farragut and the Boardwalk for a fight. Officers arrived and there was no active fight in progress. Police spoke to the parties involved and began to investigate the situation. During the investigation a male juvenile who was involved in the incident became disorderly, aggressive, and uncooperative with officers. The male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with disorderly conduct and released.

Arrest – Police were dispatched to the area of 1st and Ocean for a report of a possible intoxicated male in his vehicle. Officers arrived and located a black pick-up truck parked partially into the lane of travel with a male driver with the engine running with his foot on the brake with the vehicle in drive with him asleep at the wheel. Police were able to wake the male up and put the vehicle in park. During the investigation Officers observed the odor of marijuana and observed marijuana in the cabin of the vehicle. The driver admitted to smoking marijuana prior to getting behind the wheel. Field sobriety tests were conducted at the scene and the driver was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated on marijuana. The male was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged.
