Clouds began moving out over the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday, the third of three gloomy days that have dampened the start of the so-called “local summer” at the Jersey Shore.
Rough surf pounded local beaches, driven by strong easterly winds, with some hope offered to sun-worshipers by way of occasional breaks of blue skies through the low cloud cover. Indeed, sun is forecast to return to the Shore on Thursday, however a coastal flood advisory remains in effect.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high of 77 degrees, with northeast winds moving 10-15 m.p.h. The good weather will continue Friday, with sunny skies and a high of 79 degrees, and Saturday, with sun and a high reaching 83. Sunday is forecast to be partly cloudy, also with a high of 83 degrees.
The NWS has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for the local area for the PM high tide cycle Thursday, running from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
“Up to one foot of inundation above ground level is expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,” the advisory said. “At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads in coastal and bayside communities, and along inland tidal waterways. Some partial or full road closures are possible.”
