Thunderstorms Exit, But Cooler Weather and Rip Currents On Tap This Week

A line of thunderstorms proved to be an unpleasant guest Sunday in the Shore area, though the harshest lightning and heaviest rainfall spared the immediate area, favoring points north and west.

The skies cleared just before sunset, leading to a stunning scene of contrast at Windward Beach Park in Brick, and a rainbow forming over the ocean on the barrier island.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a sunny week, but with cooler temperatures than many local residents might be used to.

Monday will be sunny, with a high near 73 and a breeze west wind moving at 10 to 15 m.p.h. Virtually cloudless skies, with no chance of rain, will continue Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with highs of 70, 67 and 64, respectively. Lows each night this week will range from 54-58 degrees.

The NWS marine forecast, for Monday, called for a shorter period swell and south-southwest wind, which “should result in a moderate risk of rip currents.” For Tuesday, a low risk for rip currents is expected, the NWS said. Seas will run 4-5 feet Monday, easing to 3-4 feet by evening and into the remainder of the week.
