Lavallette has rolled out – quite literally – a new, handicap-accessible entrance to one of the most popular beaches in town.
The beach at President Avenue, as of this week, now features a hard structure, known as a Matrax Path, that extends from the hard-packed beach entranceway onto the soft sand. The Matrax devices were installed on Wednesday morning.
Lavallette has long committed its Community Development Block Grant grant funding, as well as funding from other sources, to beach accessibility. Councilwoman Anita Zalom, who has championed the project, said her goal is to eventually outfit all of the “wide” streets in town, which feature handicap parking spaces, with the entrance system.
