Ocean County will award a bid that will lead to the resurfacing of one Seaside Heights and Seaside Park’s major thoroughfares, as well as one smaller road in the Heights.
The county freeholder board on Wednesday recommended approval of the award of a $3,478,813 contract with Earle Aphalt to resurface and make improvements on a number roadways across the county. On the island, the project will fund the resurfacing of Central Avenue in Seaside Heights and Seaside Park. The roadway has deteriorated in recent years, thanks in part of the heavy equipment that traversed the Seaside Heights portion during Superstorm Sandy recovery and the rebuilding of Route 35.
The contract will also fund the resurfacing of Porter Avenue in Seaside Heights, a county road.
County Engineer John Ernst said the project would also include upgrades to traffic signals where needed. Construction can begin once asphalt plants reopen after the winter season.
