A storm that could have had a major impact in our area had it taken a more northerly track will leave only an inch or two of snow on the ground this weekend.

In Virginia and North Carolina, there could be major snowfall, but in New Jersey, the National Weather Service calls for only 1 to 2 inches of snow to fall in Ocean County, with like just an inch in Monmouth County. Closer to Cape May County, it’s possible 2 to 4 inches could fall.

The NWS forecast does predict the temperatures will be cold enough to support the snow sticking to roadways, so things could still get slippery. The precipitation is expected to move in late Saturday after clouds roll in by afternoon. The overnight low will be 25 degrees, when the small amount is forecast to fall. A 30 percent chance of a snow shower will continue in Sunday morning, with Sunday’s high reaching 34.
