A Seaside Heights man was arrested shortly after police identified him as a suspect in a murder that occurred earlier the same night in a borough motel.
Matthew Demartin, 37, of Seaside Heights was arrested in connection with the death of a woman believed to be his roommate at the Glendale Motel on Lincoln Avenue. The victim has been identified as Sharon Falcetano, age 59. Police and paramedics were called to the motel at 11:19 p.m. Thursday night, according to Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor’s office did not detail how they captured Demartin, but said he was “swiftly apprehended” with the cooperation of Seaside Heights police and county law enforcement.
An autopsy conducted by the Ocean County Medical Examiner today determined that the victim suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries to her head and body, Della Fave said. The manner of death was determined to be homicide.
Demartin was remanded to the Ocean County Jail.
