A small shack on the 2nd Avenue beach in Seaside Park was destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday, leading to an investigation by local law enforcement.
The fire occurred just before 5 a.m., and was already fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
The small, wooden pavilion where ice cream was usually sold, was located along the dune line just north of the 2nd Avenue beach entrance. By Tuesday afternoon, what remained of the structure had been removed, save for a few pieces of charred wood remaining on the beach. The smell of burnt wood wafted through the air.
Della Fave said a cause for the fire has yet to be determined. It is not known if arson was the cause, though the structure had no electrical hookup running to it.
