A pipe that will carry sand from a dredge boat to the shore has been installed in Ortley Beach.
The pipe extends from the beachfront at 7th Avenue, just south of the former Surf Club building, into the water and out to sea. Offshore, there is a connector which crews hook up to a dredge boat, which pumps sand through the pipe and onto shore. From there, land-based crews use bulldozers and front-loaders to spread the sand out.
Earlier this week, Toms River officials said residents could expect to see the equipment by the end of the week.
Township Engineer Robert Chankalian said replenishment will begin May 24, starting at 7th Avenue and moving northward from there.
