The cost to repaint Lavallette’s water tower will be about half of what initial estimates for the job predicted.
The borough council on Monday approved a $776,400 contract with Brave Industrial Paint, LLC, to perform the work, which will include repainting of both the interior and exterior of the 500,000 gallon tank.
Initially, the project was estimated to have cost about $1.5 million.
“It’s half of what we expected,” said Mayor Walter LaCicero.
The borough has also applied for state funding to defray the cost of the project. Under a state-run programs, towns with small populations but large infrastructure needs – such as a resort towns whose population swells in the summer – may qualify for funding.
