Police Pleasant Beach police say two women struck by lightning within minutes of each other are expected to survive and recover from the incident.
According to a statement from police, the borough’s first responders received two separate reports of people being struck by lightning on the beach and boardwalk. The first occurred at 2:53 p.m.; the second occurred at 3:01 p.m. Storms were passing by the area at the time.
During the first incident, a 63-year-old woman was struck as she was leaving the beach, but remained conscious as she was being taken to the hospital. The second incident occurred on Ocean Avenue as a 54-year-old woman was in her vehicle. She was also conscious during transport to the hospital.
Injuries to both women were described as “minor” by officials and both are expected to recover.
