Damage described as being in the “tens of thousands” of dollars was caused when metal shards from the ongoing water tower repainting project in Lavallette fell to the street.
“The company has said they will make good on it,” said Mayor Walter LaCicero, referring to Brave Industrial Paint, the contractor performing the work.
The damage was apparently caused when small slivers of steel managed to get through a protective shroud that surrounds the water tower while work is ongoing, said Borough Administrator John O. Bennett. The issue that caused the damage to the vehicles has since been remedied, officials said.
Donnelly Amico, the borough clerk, said the town has a copy of the painting company’s insurance certificate on file. LaCicero said the borough has been referring to people whose cars were damaged directly to the company to file a claim.
Brave Industrial Paint, based in Long Branch, is completing the water tower project under a $776,400 contract approved last March.
