Early birds might not only catch the worm, but some spending money as well.
Seaside Heights is beginning a new effort this summer to keep the borough clean and tidy, recruiting residents and visitors to become paid members of the “Clean Team,” a group that will disperse throughout town each morning to spruce things up for the day.
The Public Works Clean Team will “help keep our iconic boardwalk and streets spotless for residents and visitors alike,” an announcement said. Work will begin early at 4 a.m., but the workday will be completed early as well, around 12 noon. The borough has promised “competitive pay” and is seeking earlier risers and those who love the outdoors and want to get their “steps” in for the day – a novel approach to recruiting for an important – but hard-to-fill – job.
Workers will collect litter and trash in order to keep the boardwalk and public streets clean and in good order for the day ahead.
The borough is also hiring “Green Thumb Gardener” to work from April through October. The position, according to the borough, requires a passionate and hardworking gardener/landscaper to help maintain and enhance the charm of Seaside Heights. The gardener will spend his or her time:
- Maintaining and beautifying entranceways, planters, and monuments throughout town.
- Planting flowers, shrubs, and greenery to enhance Seaside Heights’ curb appeal.
- Watering, weeding, mulching, and general upkeep of landscaping areas.
- Keeping public spaces neat, tidy, and inviting.
The successful candidate must have some experience in landscaping or gardening, enjoy working outdoors, have a passion for plants and be reliable and excited for the job. The borough promises “an exceptional hourly rate that is based on your experience while doing something rewarding.”
Those interested in either position can apply by contacting Vickie Coppola at vcoppola@seaside-heightsnj.org or 732-793-9100.
