Authorities are investigating widespread reports of gunshots having been fired in Seaside Heights Saturday evening, though there were no reports of injuries.
Mayor Anthony Vaz confirmed the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI unit was on scene at Hamilton Avenue conducting an investigation into the incident, the details of which are still largely unclear. According to several witness accounts shared with Shorebeat, a sound resembling that of gunfire was heard on Hamilton in the early evening (the time of the initial report is still being confirmed).
The witnesses all reported seeing a person described as a black male in a white hooded sweatshirt running toward the boardwalk area after the sound of the shots was heard. He may have been accompanied by two women, descriptions of whom varied. The white sweatshirt was reportedly located, according to police radio chatter. The CSI investigation includes K9 units and officers on foot.
The investigation is continuing and Shorebeat will update the story when information is released via official channels.
