The lines out the door on a Saturday morning are a sure sign of delicious donuts inside at one island shop – and the owners are seeking approval to expand the business.
Donuts Plus, located at 3173 Route 35 North in the Ocean Beach section of Toms River, will appear before the township’s planning board next month to pitch its expansion plan. The shop is seeking approval to add a 714 square foot addition to the existing 960 square foot donut shop.
A hearing before the board is required since the zoning ordinance calls for a minimum of 5,000 square feet for the business, while the existing lot measures up just shy, at 4,773 square feet in area. A variance would be required for the expansion. The owners are also seeking variances for the minimum front yard setback requirement on Route 35; a 40-foot setback is requires while a 2-foot setback is proposed.
Also, according to a board notice, a lot must be 100-feet deep, where a 77-foot depth is proposed. Finally, the minimum front yard setback requirement – at Bayberry Way – normally requires a 20 foot setback where a 5 foot setback is proposed.
The hearing will be held Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. at the township municipal complex on Washington Street.
