Looking back on 2024, those who love the Jersey Shore and its boardwalks were treated to a special event in Seaside Heights. The historic Floyd L. Moreland Carousel returned to town after spending several years having been dismantled and fully restored, ultimately being brought to its new home in a spectacular pavilion on the boardwalk.

Seaside Heights officials were able to save the rare Dentzel-Looff Carousel and its Wurlitzer band organ from being sold for parts, working out a deal with Casino Pier, its former owner, to trade permission for a pier expansion for the carousel and land to build the circular-shaped pavilion where it will continue to charm kids and parents alike for generations to come. But funding for the new pavilion, upkeep and operations well into the future will be needed, leading a group of volunteers to create the Seaside Heights Historical Society, which will be able to raise money to support the carousel into the future.

Recognizing both the return of the historic attraction and its new home, the Historical Society last week unveiled a keepsake Christmas ornament that depicts one of the horse figurines that make up the carousel with an inscription commemorating the year. A photo of the ornament appears with this story.

The ornaments will be on sale to benefit the Historical Society Dec. 7, and will be available for purchase in-person at the Carousel Pavilion itself, along the boardwalk between Sampson and Carteret avenues. It will then continue to be available for purchase on weekends in December. The price for the beautiful ornament is $20 – and those who can’t make it in person we can have it shipped for an additional $5.

Those who wish to order the ornament can send a check or money order made out the “Seaside Heights Historical Society” with “Ornament” written in the memo line. The ornament costs $20 each, plus $5 shipping per order. (Multiple ornaments can be shipped in one parcel. For example, three ornaments would cost $65.)
