A four-year-old boy who was found submerged in a swimming pool in the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley Township over the holiday weekend has died, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said the child, whose name was not divulged publicly, died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on Tuesday. The incident was described by the prosecutor’s office as accidental.
On Aug. 30, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in South Seaside Park for a report that a four-year-old male had been removed from a swimming pool and found to be unresponsive.
Emergency life-saving techniques were performed on the child, and he was transported to the Neptune-based trauma center.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with this child’s parents, family and friends at this most difficult time,” Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer stated.
