Spirit Halloween, a seasonal retailer that sells Halloween-themed decorations and accessories, will open four locations in Ocean County this year, including one in Brick and two in Toms River. The chain is known for signing short-term leases in empty commercial spaces for its seasonal offerings.
In Brick, Spirit will occupy the former Christmas Tree Shops store at 465 Route 70, adjacent to the Costco store. An opening date has not been publicly announced, and a sign advertises the location will be “coming soon.”
The Toms River locations will be located along Route 37 and Fischer Boulevard. The Route 37 location will be in the space of a closed Rite-Aid pharmacy at 1726 Route 37, while the Fischer Boulevard store will be located adjacent to the ShopRite store at 860 Fischer Boulevard. According to the company, the Fischer Boulevard location is already open and the Route 37 store will open before the end of the month.
The fourth Ocean County store will be located in Stafford Township at a former Five Below store at 601 Washington Avenue and will open later this month.
Spirit Halloween has a heavy presence in New Jersey, as it is based in Egg Harbor Township. Its parent company is Spencer Gifts. There are about 1,500 locations expected to open nationally for 2024 in the run-up to the fall season.
