Sunny skies and a high of 88 degrees will mark the perfect day to celebrate America’s colors, which will be displayed proudly at a new location in Seaside Park moving forward.

Flag Day, celebrated June 14, will be marked with a ceremonial raising of the American flag at a new flag pole and green space at the 14th Avenue Pier along Barnegat Bay. The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 14. Light refreshments will be provided; the rain date is June 17.

The site at 14th Street was decided to house the flag after legal wranglings with the state prevented it from being installed near the police and fire station due to traffic regulations. The borough’s Beautification Committee is responsible for spearheading the addition of a large American flag to the borough, along with plantings and an aesthetically-pleasing flagpole and mounting area.

The Beautification Committee has long been responsible for many of the pleasing displays at the 14th Avenue pier, including the area’s butterfly garden, which has been kept up for nine years by the group as of last month.
