Toms River will host a Junior Lifeguard program this summer in Ortley Beach, intended for children ages 10-15 with all skill sets and abilities, the township announced.
The program will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 9 through Aug. 8 at the North Lifeguard Station at Fourth Avenue along the Ortley Beach boardwalk.
According to organizers, the program, which costs $75 per child, emphasizes teamwork, leadership skills and aquatic safety while introducing young people to safe marine and aquatic recreational opportunities.
“The program is designed to provide quality water safety education while improving young people’s physical conditioning, their understanding and respect for the environment, and respect for themselves, their parents and their peers,” the announcement said.
Registration for the program will open May 15 at the township’s website. Those seeking more information can call 732-341-1000, ext. 8415.
