Toms River’s Recreation Department has been busy getting some of the township’s barrier island amenities ready for the upcoming summer season.
Recently, officials announced the completion of a newly re-surfaced basketball court and playground at Chadwick Beach Park, located on Strickland Boulevard, next to the Wawa store. The park includes the basketball courts, playground and tennis courts.
Within the last few days, officials said a new gate at the Chadwick Beach tennis courts was installed.
Additionally, Councilman Justin Lamb, whose ward includes the entire barrier island portion of the township, last week recognized the Colucci family, of Ortley Beach, who led efforts to expand gardens in the neighborhood. The family and a small army of volunteers expanded the pollinator gardens that were first planted last year along the oceanfront. The new plants are located at Harding Avenue, and the township is expected to hold a ceremony to thank the volunteers for their efforts.
The plantings were funded in large part by New Jersey American Water, which serves the barrier island portion of the township.
