Columbus Day Kicks off Cooler Week at Jersey Shore; Another Spectacular Sunset

The Columbus Day holiday on Monday will represent this start of a cooler week at the Shore, the first long-term sign of fall weather since the seasonal change.

We captured a few images of an interesting “sunset” Sunday night near the Mantoloking Bridge, with a layer of dark clouds blocking out the actual sunset, but letting just enough light into the sky to light up some puffy, wavy clouds over the bay and ocean to close out a busy couple of days locally. Our cameras caught a few still images, seen below, and a short video seen above (note: some ad-blocking software could interfere with the video player).

Monday’s forecast from the National Weather Service calls for sunny skies, but a high of just 62 degrees. Overnight, the low will drop to 48 degrees with a slight chance of showers and some clouds mixed in.

Tuesday will see the sun return, the NWS forecast said, but with a high of 65 degrees amidst light winds of just 5-10 m.p.h. After another chilly night, with a 52-degree low, there will be more sun Wednesday as temperatures slowly creep higher, reaching 66 degrees.

Thursday will bring temperatures into the mid-to-high 60s as well before returning to a high of only 61 degrees Friday. Overnight lows will be between 52 and 55 degrees each night, though both days will be mostly sunny. Some clouds may move in Friday, however the NWS forecast does not call for rain.
