A group known as the “Wind Wolves” brought their signature traveling kite festival to Seaside Park Wednesday night, drawing a large crowd of spectators to the O Street Beach – and dozens of large, colorful kites that brightened the early-evening sky.
The Wind Wolves are “a traveling group of kite enthusiasts who enjoy spreading our love of kiting,” according to the group’s website. The participants bring a combination of massive, floating kites as well as sport kites that perform tricks and twists to similar shows across the country. The group is New Jersey-based, however, and came together in Hackensack.
The kite-flying is accompanied with popular music (the music had to be edited out of our video, embedded above, due to copyright restrictions) that sets a mood to correspond with what’s flying in the air.
If you missed Wednesday night’s performance in Seaside Park, there are still a few opportunities to see the group locally this summer. Each Tuesday for the remainder of August, the group will host “Kites in the Heights” in Seaside Heights at the boardwalk’s north end, and will return to Seaside Park’s O Street Beach each Wednesday for the rest of the month. Both shows kick off at 5 p.m.
Wind Wolves will also present the annual LBI International Kite Festival, Oct. 6-10, in Ship Bottom. Snowbirds can check out the group in Cocoa Beach, Fla. in January.
