Storm System Expected to Arrive at Jersey Shore This Weekend

A storm system will move through the region this weekend, bringing rain and high winds – but virtually no snow, once again.

The stormy forecast has already resulted in the postponement of the Ocean County St. Patrick’s Day Parade, with precipitation starting Friday night and continuing into Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, there will be a chance of rain after 1 p.m. Friday after an otherwise cloudy day, with a high near 44. Winds will  switch to the southeast by late afternoon. Overnight between Friday and Saturday, steady rain will move in, along with winds that will increase in velocity and gust to as much as 35 m.p.h. The overnight low, however, will remain well above freezing, ensuring the precipitation will stay rain.

There will be a chance of rain mixed with snow Saturday morning before 8 a.m., however it will quickly change back to all rain. Clouds will linger for the rest of the day, with a high near 43 degrees. About a quarter-inch of rain is expected to fall.

The clouds will begin to gradually move out Saturday, the NWS said, with sunny skies returning Sunday along with a high of 43 degrees.
