Seaside Heights Boardwalk Replacement Project Completed: Check It Out!

A mild, breezy Sunday afternoon brought thousands of visitors to the Seaside Heights boardwalk Sunday – and next weekend, the number is expected to swell to tens of thousands of revelers in town for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Just in time for the spring rush to kick in, Seaside Heights has completed its two-phase boardwalk replacement project.

Shorebeat has been keeping tabs on the project since the beginning, and the embedded video and photos with this story show the final product.

The work was completed under a $1,103,500 contract with A-Tech Concrete Company of Edison, Middlesex County.

Construction began in mid-December and wrapped up within the past week. First conceived during the summer of 2022, the replacement of the boardwalk in two areas was sent out to bid. After an initial snag during a period of time when timber prices had rocketed into the stratosphere, the project was re-bid, and a contract awarded.

The first phase included the complete replacement of boards between Dupont Avenue (near The Beachcomber) to Franklin Avenue. The second phase included the replacement of the borough’s primary vehicle entrance to the boardwalk at Grant Avenue. This entrance, of great important during the summer, needs frequent maintenance due to the loads it carries. Emergency vehicles generally use the ramp to access the boardwalk, as do work trucks for Casino Pier, and large commercial vehicles that are brought in to set up summer concerts at the large Grant Avenue beach stage. Along with the ramp, the boards between the entrance and the concrete ramp down to the beachfront were replaced as well.
