The weather outside has been frightful so far this week, but for Lavallette residents, summer is right around the corner.
Borough officials said the town’s annual holiday beach badge sale, in which prospective sunbathers can purchase badges at a discount (and give them out as gifts to friends and loved ones), has been particularly popular this year.
Councilman Michael Stogdill said the borough sold an astounding $17,000 worth of beach badges the first day they were available.
“Including today, revenue generated from the holiday sale $54,975,” Stogdill said on Monday.
Last year, the holiday badge sales generated between $115,000 and $120,000 worth of sales. Lavallette offers three periods in which to obtain a season badge: holiday pricing, pre-season pricing, and regular pricing. Holiday season pricing began Dec. 1 and runs through Dec. 30. The badges will be sold Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. in borough hall. The holiday price is $55 for the season. Patrons must come directly to borough hall to purchase the badges – there is no advanced ordering or online sales.
“Regular” preseason badges will be sold Jan. 16 through April 28, at which point the price will rise to $60. These badges, likewise, will be sold at town hall during normal operating hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traditional season badges will cost $65 and will be available May 1 through Sept. 4. On June 5, to coincide with the start of the official beach season, sales will move from town hall to the beach badge office at the corner of Baltimore and Jersey City avenues.
The borough also offers senior citizen season badges for $20.
