A late-afternoon accident in Lavallette on Thursday sent a box truck careening into the yard of a residential home off Route 35’s southbound lanes, leading to traffic jams as the busy holiday rush begins.
The accident occurred at Haddonfield Avenue and Route 35 South in the northernmost portion of the borough. Police from Lavallette and Toms River were on scene, as well as EMTs, fire and utility crews. A flatbed truck was in the process of removing the truck from the corner property.
It was not immediately apparent as to whether the truck caused any damage to the home itself, though power lines were down and there was damage to utility equipment, landscaping and other ancillary features of the property.
There was a report of one injury, presumably the passenger of the vehicle, though the status of the person who was injured was not immediately available from police. Another person in the truck, presumably the driver, was uninjured.
