Seaside Park Police Blotter: Dueling Drivers, Ocean Tragedy

Seaside Park’s police blotter for last week appears below, representing a sample of calls to which the department responded. The department handled 172 calls for the week as of the time of publication.

Aggressive Drivers – Police responded to 6th and Central to speak with two vehicle operators who had both complained about the other for aggressive driving. After speaking with both subjects, this incident had begun out of town and continued through Seaside Park. Police spoke with both parties and gathered information needed to generate a report. Police advised the individuals involved how to sign complaints if they wished to do so.

Community Policing – While on patrol in the area of O St. and the Boulevard Officers observed a vehicle with its trunk open with no one in the vehicle. Police checked the vehicle did not see any signs of forced entry. Nothing appeared to be disturbed or damaged and Officers were able to secure the vehicle. No further police action required.

Verbal Dispute – While on patrol in the area of Porter and Ocean Avenue Officers observed a group yelling and arguing with one another in the street. Police intervened and broke up the individuals involved and diffused the situation and separated the parties involved. The subjects involved in the dispute went their separate ways.

Alarm – Police responded to the area of H St. and Central for a burglar alarm activation. Officers arrived and checked the perimeter of the residence and did not observe any signs of forced entry. All doors and windows were found to be secure, and it was determined that the alarm was set off in error.

Swimmers in Distress – There were multiple swimmers in distress on several areas of the beach. We urge people to swim at their own risk when there are no lifeguards on duty! Three Swimmers safely got out of the water. One male swimmer at J St. Beach went under water and was later pulled out unresponsive. Police and EMS performed CPR on the patient until they were transported to Community Medical Center where he was ultimately pronounced.

Trespassing – Police were dispatched to the area of K St. and Central Avenue for a female subject that was trespassing on the property without permission to be there. Police arrived and spoke to the parties involved. The female subject did not live there and came to gather some belongings that were left there. Police gathered all the information needed to generate a report and the female was advised she was not welcome back on the property.



Theft – Police responded to the area of L St. and Ocean for a report of a theft. Officers arrived and spoke to the caller who reported that someone came onto their porch and stole property belonging to the homeowner. The caller supplied police with camera footage showing a white female enter onto the property and committed the theft and ran off with another white female and they continued to head west toward the Boulevard. This matter is still under investigation.

Keep the Peace – Police responded to the area of Farragut and Boulevard to keep the peace for a landlord tenant dispute. Police arrived and spoke to the parties involved. The landlord had learned the folks he rented to had caused a disturbance multiple times during their stay as well as damaged the interior of the rental. The landlord asked them to vacate which they agreed to. Police stood by to ensure there were no issues and they left without incident.

Open Door – Police were dispatched to the area of 6th and Bayview for an open door to a residence that was unoccupied. Officers arrived and checked the residence and did not locate any signs of forced entry. Everything else appeared to be secured and the interior of the residence was checked with nothing out of the ordinary observed. It was determined that the door was left open in error. Police at the scene were able to secure the residence.
