Lavallette residents and visitors got a fun start to their summer this past weekend, with three events that brought the community together.
Councilwoman Anita Zalom was kind enough to send over some photos of the fun. First, friends and well-wishers marked the 70th birthday of resident Jack Sauer, who this year organized the massive Our Shore For Ukraine fundraiser that raised $48,000 for the people of Ukraine as they repelled the Russian invasion of their country.
The event assisted the local St. Stephen Ukrainian Catholic Church in providing resources to the Ukrainian Catholic priests and nuns in Kyiv and throughout the country. Working together, the event raised $34,555 in ticket sales and donations, plus additional $9,965 in Raffles and 50/50 on the night of the event for a total of $44,520 – plus a few more donations.
The really began earlier Saturday with the annual pancake breakfast at the Union Church of Lavallette.
Closing out the weekend, Lavallette held its first Sunday Night Concert by the Bay, with over 150 people in attendance.
“It’s fun for all,” said Zalom. “Sunday night’s concert was the best. Please come enjoy on Sundays and movies on Tuesdays.”
More events, of course, are coming up in the following days as the Independence Day celebration approaches, including:
- Annual Patriotic Bike Parade: Sunday, July 3, 2022 between 9-10 a.m., Boardwalk and President Avenue.
- Fireworks: Sunday, July 3, 2022 at the Centennial Gardens and Gazebo. A concert begins at 8 p.m., with fireworks at 9 p.m. Rain Date July 10.
- Movies on the Bay, Sing II: Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 8:30 p.m.
