Seaside Heights beach badges are now on sale at borough hall, officials announced Monday.

According to the announcement, season beach badges will be sold at borough hall regular business hours. Cash and checks are accepted. Those who wish to use a credit card to buy their badges can only do so through the VIPLY smartphone app.

A seasonal badge at the pre-season price of $50 is offered through May 15. Then, the price rises to $60 on May 16. Senior citizen badges are priced at $15 each (or two for $25). Daily wristbands will be $10 this season.

The pre-season price was raised $5 this year, however the regular price remained the same. Borough officials said the increase was driven by higher salaries as the labor market becomes more expensive – and employees become harder to find.

In recent years, municipalities with beaches have steadily increased the prices of beach badges as the market has forced them to increase pay for summer workers. The state’s recent minimum wage hikes were phased in for public agencies, but competition from private employers who were paying higher hourly wages and handing out bonuses left towns short-handed. There is also competition from Island Beach State Park, which employs many local residents seasonally at the state’s new, higher pay scale.

Seaside Heights borough hall is now located at 100 Grant Avenue, the former rectory of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The building has been leased by the borough and is still undergoing some renovations.
