March certainly didn’t come in like a lion, and that’s okay by us.
For the first time in a month, the NWS forecast shows no possibility of winter weather ahead. Instead, there are some subtle signs that spring may be in the air, hedging against the stereotype of the month of March “coming in like a lion” and leaving like a lamb, a nod to frequent foul weather in the early portion of the month.
As shown in the video attached to this story, skies were mostly sunny Tuesday, though some clouds moved in by sunset. For Wednesday, forecasters are calling for completely sunny skies with a high of 53 degrees – above average for this time of year.
There will be a chance of showers after 1 a.m. Thursday, lasting until about 10 a.m., but the sun will arrive by late morning and the remainder of the day is forecast to be clear, with a high of 48 degrees.
The weekend forecast also looks promising. Friday will be chillier, with a high of 39 degrees, though it will be sunny. The blue skies and sunshine will take a break Saturday, though no rain is forecast. The NWS is calling for most cloudy skies with a high near 49 degrees. Sunday’s high will reach 64 degrees, though it will be mainly cloudy with a chance of rain.
As the seasons prepare to change, many locals in the Shore area have likely been noticing later sunsets in recent weeks. According to NWS data, the sunset in Ocean County occurs at 5:49 p.m. Wednesday night, and sunrise Thursday morning will occur at 6:28 a.m. On March 13, clocks will “spring ahead,” propelling forward the time of sunrise and sunset by one hour.
