UPDATE: Winter Storm Warning Issued, Calls for 9-15 Inches of Snow During Nor’Easter

A winter storm warning was issued for Ocean County Thursday afternoon, covering the period from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday and calling for 9-15 inches of snow during an impending nor’easter that will also deliver high winds and coastal flooding to the region.

Heavy snow is expected, the warning statement said, and 9-15 inches of snow will fall, with the highest amounts being seen along the coast.

“Snow is expected to begin Friday evening in Delmarva and southern New Jersey, spreading northward overnight into Saturday morning,” the warning statement said. “Snow may be heavy at times through mid-afternoon Saturday before diminishing Saturday evening. Strong winds may generate blowing snow and very low visibilities at times.”

The National Weather Service forecast for Ocean County calls for a generally cloudy day Friday with the first flakes moving in after 4 p.m. Little to no snow accumulation is expected during the daylight hours Friday. But on Friday night, the bulk of the storm is forecast to move in, perhaps beginning as a period of rain before 10 p.m., but quickly changing to all snow with a low of just 22 degrees. Wind gusts overnight will eclipse 30 m.p.h.

Snow will continue Saturday with a high of 27 degrees, preventing any change-back to rain. The NWS forecast said 3-5 inches of snow will fall Friday night, while the remainder will fall Saturday.

The snow threat will linger until about 1 a.m. Sunday morning, followed by continually gusty winds and a frigid overnight low of 12 degrees. The storm will move out quickly on Sunday, though, and sun is expected to return during the daytime hours.

A gale warning was also in effect.
