Seaside Heights officials have decided how to move forward with a speaker system that can make announcements to people who are sitting on the beach, officials said this week.
“We’ve been struggling with getting these speakers installed on the beach,” said Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz.
The borough switched to a hard-wired speaker system in 2019 after spending several years dealing with an unreliable wireless system. The speakers are located on the boardwalk, however, and messages are not easily transmittable to those who are on the beach. With the borough’s larger dunes, wiring the beach and placing speakers across the dune line became a more complicated option, so the borough is now looking to add more speakers to the boardwalk that will face the beach.
“We were working on getting permits to drive piles onto the beach on the east side of the dunes so we would have beach-facing speakers,” Vaz explained. “But the permitting process and costs involved were too much.”
Vaz said he discussed the matter with lifeguard officials this week as well as the borough council.
