Brick Township’s planning board has approved a plan to add a natural gas regulator station, owned by New Jersey Natural Gas, on Mantoloking Road in Brick.

The 4,758 square foot facility will be located on the property of the existing Ocean County Utilities Authority sewerage facility at 255 Mantoloking Road. According to representatives from New Jersey Natural Gas the site will contain a natural gas regulator station consisting of a gas pressure reduction facility, which will include a filter, piping, valves, regulators, and related equipment.

The purpose of the facility is to create redundancies in the natural gas delivery network in the area – especially the barrier island, where new mains will be installed as part of a wider project in the area. Questioned by planning board members as to the safety of the facility, NJNG officials said there are sufficient systems in place to address any issues and alarms are immediately sent to the company as well as the local fire department should a problem ever materialize. No similar facility has had issues in the past, they said.
