The Seaside Heights Italian American club was recognized for 50 years of serving the community and bringing its residents together.
Mayor Anthony Vaz and the borough council honored the club with a resolution at the Dec. 5 council meeting.
“There are very few nonprofits in the nation now that still do service to their communities,” said Vaz. “But here in Seaside Heights, we have the fire company, we have the American Legion … and you with 50 years have been in service to do many great causes. We’re so proud that you came here to Seaside Heights.”
The club is responsible for supporting many worthy causes in the borough. Each year, it awards 10 scholarships to local students and hosts fundraisers for the volunteer fire department. The club also helps host numerous events and activities.
The club was formed in 1968 to “preserve the Italian culture, honor and practice the Italian traditions and foster the Italian heritage within the community that was brought here from Italy.”
More information on the club can be found at its website.
