Police say the driver of a pickup truck fled the scene after striking a pedestrian Sunday night.

The 10:49 p.m. accident occurred in the area of Sheridan Avenue and Central Avenue, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. According to Della Fave, an investigation by his office, Seaside Heights police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department determined a black Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling northbound on Central Avenue approaching the intersection of Sheridan Avenue. As the Dodge Ram exited the intersection the vehicle struck a pedestrian, identified as Danielle Cangelosi, 25, of Kingston, N.Y., who was walking eastbound on Sheridan Avenue.

Cangelosi was thrown approximately 20 feet north on Central Avenue by the impact, Della Fave said. The truck then left the scene, continuing northbound on Central Avenue. Cangelosi was transported to Community Medical Center for her injuries.
