Large waves pounded the beachfront in Ortley Beach late Saturday, as a coastal storm began to make its effects felt in Ocean County.
Similarly, Barnegat Bay was stirred up by 30 m.p.h. wind gusts, leading to white caps, breakers and some localized flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, a gale warning remained in effect through 6 a.m. Sunday, and 6-9 foot waves were expected along the oceanfront, building to 8 to 11 feet overnight as the brunt of the storm passes by. On Sunday, forecasters are expecting seas 6 to 9 feet, subsiding to 4 to 7 feet in the afternoon. There is also a flash flood warning, rip current advisory and wind advisory in effect through Sunday.
