After several years of paying the piper – well, the meter – visitors to Seaside Heights will have the opportunity to park for free this season, assuming they’re willing to walk a few blocks.
The large lot off Bay Boulevard which runs between Hamilton and Sumner avenues has been utilized both as a paid parking lot as well as a staging area for numerous state infrastructure projects. The borough is returning it to “free” status following a parking crunch that was especially felt by workers in town.
“We’re going to be encouraging the businesses in town to steer their employees to this parking lot,” said Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz. “It has been a challenge to some of the employees in town, including our own employees, to find and pay for parking during the summer.”
The change was unanimously approved by the borough council at its meeting Wednesday.
