Lavallette officials say residents who are customers of the municipal power company can help reduce rates year-round by reducing consumption between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Borough Administrator John Bennett said today is calculated to one of the five days of the year when the highest amount of power is consumed in the borough. Because rates are partially based on how much power is used during peak periods, such as today, reducing consumption for just a short time can affect the borough’s (and thus, customers’) year-round energy rates.
Bennett advised residents should turn off lights and other electronic items that are not necessary and, if possible, turn off air conditioners for just the two-hour span.
