A nor’easter began to bear down heavily on Ocean County’s northern barrier island, posing an increasing threat to makeshift dunes in sensitive areas and blanketing streets with blowing sand – painful to the skin for those who venture out.

Flooding was still at a relative minimum, but the wind was gusting over 60 m.p.h. out of the northeast, propelling increasing wave heights and power as high tide approaches on the oceanfront at about 4 p.m.

By 2 p.m., waves were already threatening the berm in front of the Golden Gull condominium in Ortley Beach, and began scouring a sea wall in Brick.
