A lifelong resident of Lavallette who served as the borough clerk for years, Kathleen “Kay” LaVecchia has died.
LaVecchia, 78, passed away June 1 and Community Medical Center in Toms River, according to an obituary.
LaVecchia was born in Queens, N.Y. and was a life long resident of Lavallette, where she worked as the municipal clerk for 20 years. She was a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club, served as secretary for the Board of Adjustment, and on the Lavallette Republican Club. She was also a past president of the Municipal Clerks Association of Ocean County, a member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, an executive committee member of the Ocean County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund, as well as a member of the State of NJ Registrar’s Association.
Her most cherished and loved people in her life are her children and grandchildren, the obituary said.
“She was one of the staples in our small town government,” Mayor Walter LaCicero said this week, asking for a moment of silence in remembrance of LaVecchia at Monday’s borough council meeting.
Surviving are her children Janeen Cartnick and her husband Jim of Toms River, Christine Chadwick and her husband Eric of Davidsonville, Md., and Thomas LaVecchia of College Point, N.Y. and her grandchildren Emma, Joseph, James, Olivia, Alexis, Landon, Abigail and Kayna.
