Seaside Heights Councilwoman Arline Ottoson passed away over the weekend, officials in town said.
Ottoson, along with her husband, owned and operated the Anchor Motel. She later worked at the Big Top Arcade, said friend and borough school board member Peter Smith.
A viewing will be held Thursday at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, from 1 to 5 p.m.
“Arline will be missed by her family, friends, constituents, and colleagues on the borough council,” Mayor Anthony Vaz said in a social media post.
Ottoson, a Republican, will be replaced on the borough’s governing body by another member of her party. The Seaside Heights Republican Club said Monday that in accordance with state law, the organization will send three names of interested candidates to the council to be selected to fill out the remainder of Ottoson’s year on council.
Those interested are being asked to send resumes to Todd Genty and Diane Martinez or Club President Peter Smith by Monday Feb. 8 at 12 noon.The potential candidate must forward a resume to the club and be a registered voter in Seaside Heights, a registered Republican, and over the age of 18.
Ottoson’s successor will be selected at the Feb. 16 council meeting.
