The first of what officials are estimating to be close to 3,000 truckloads of sand were delivered to the Ortley Beach oceanfront on Wednesday, three days after the previous berm was devastated by a nor’easter that threatened to breach to neighborhood’s makeshift dunes.

Toms River officials estimated the cost of the dune rebuilding at $1.7 million. Earle Asphalt is handing the project. State officials are working on an aid package for the township, sources said. The construction is set to last about three to four days.
