The Ocean County Library system has expanded its smoke-free policy to the entirety of each library campus under a new policy announced Monday.
The policy, which was formally adopted in August, prohibits tobacco use and smoking in all forms, including the use of electronic cigarettes and smoke-free oral tobacco products on library grounds.
“People smoking at the entrances to libraries were making some people and families feel unwelcome,” Library Director Susan Quinn said.
The smoke-free policy is important to the library’s mission of “connecting people, building community, and transforming lives through the power of information,” Quinn said.
“This includes the library’s role in providing information resources on chronic disease prevention and serving as a welcoming and safe space for the educational needs of the children and teens who use our library system,” she added.
