The Seaside Heights bayfront area along Route 35 will be renamed Sunset Beach and improved with several amenities, including a potential dog run, officials said.
“We will be focusing on cleaning up the bay beach area and removing bottles and other litter that is there,” said Councilwoman Agnes Polhemus.
Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz said use of the beach has been increasing, prompting officials to pay more attention to the area, which is often confused for either private land or an area that is part of Ortley Beach.
“One of the reasons we want to clean it up is because we realize how many people are actually there,” Vaz said. “We want to make it nice for everybody.”
Everybody knows the area with the boardwalk in Island Heights and so many people gather there for the sunset,” Vaz said. “The sunset is just as beautiful here, it’s a really beautiful spot.
A small piece of the bay beach could become a dog park, Vaz said.
