Police in Seaside Heights are investigating an accident that occurred Saturday in which a pedestrian was struck by an SUV.

According to Detective Steve Korman, a 67-year-old man from Eatontown was walking east in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection of Grant and Central avenues at about 11:30 a.m. when he was struck by a GMC Arcadia being operated by 56-year-old Pompton Plains woman. The driver was traveling westbound on Grant Avenue, turning left into the southbound lane of Central Avenue.

Due to injuries the man sustained, he was transported by Tri-Boro First Aid Squad to a landing zone where he was airlifted by the NorthStar Medevac Helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The accident is still under investigation by Ptl. Joseph DiGiovanni. The man who was struck is in stable condition at this time, Korman said Monday.
